• Al centro del contributo staranno le prefazioni alle traduzioni italiane nel Settecento e in particolare il loro contributo all’evoluzione della traduttologia. È proprio nel Settecento che (anche in Italia) la scrittura scientifica comincia ad orientarsi verso forme più agili ed essenziali per rispondere alle esigenze di un pubblico sempre più vasto e variegato. Sulla base di esempi rappresentativi si dimostrerà l’apporto notevole che ebbero le prefazioni, in una fase transitoria, nel processo della formazione di nuove tradizioni discorsive, e cioè di nuovi generi testuali.
• The focus of this article will be the prefaces to Italian translations in the Eighteenth century and in particular their contribution to the evolution of translation theory. It was in the Eighteenth century (Italy included) that scholars began to adopt a more agile and essential style of writing in order to cater for an increasingly vast and varied reading public. Based on a selection of examples, this article seeks to demonstrate the significant role that prefaces played in the transition towards new discursive traditions and new text genres.
