AGO recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with early breast cancer: update 2026

  • Optimal management of breast cancer (BC) requires a multidisciplinary approach. The interdisciplinary AGO Breast Committee annually issues updated, evidence-based recommendations on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The update process follows a predefined methodological framework, including systematic review of relevant recent publications and structured assessment according to the Oxford Levels of Evidence (LoE). The strength of recommendation is determined using the Oxford Grades of Recommendation (GR) in conjunction with the AGO grading system. The most recent update for early and metastatic BC was released in March 2026. This manuscript summarizes the updated recommendations for early BC.
