  • In the past, knowledge of history was imperative for educated people. The school syllabi of our days place economically oriented knowledge above a sound general knowledge. Therefore, school subjects like Geography, Natural History, or History also have to prove profitable if they are not to be declared unnecessary luxury und hence eliminated as a whole. Today, a great deal of the use of history consists in the possibility it offers to come to a better understanding of the present. At the same time it is helpful to support understanding und sense of justice amongst the people in the whole world. To achieve this kind of instruction the schools need appropriate up to date and scientifically based teaching aids. Unfortunately, there are still too many textbooks containing outdated scientifical findings of the sixties or of even earlier times, thus giving a completely false conception of history. Schools and teachers should therefore make severe efforts to ensure that text-books undIn the past, knowledge of history was imperative for educated people.
