  • History didactics have a difficult start in Japan. In the secondary school, level two, history is a matter of choice for the pupils. Exams are orientated rather on reproduction of fragmentated knowledge than on critical thinking. The State-censor tries to eliminate the negative aspects in Japanese history. Some theoreticians, as prof. N. Fujioka, want a more nationalistic discours. But all this problems have also a positive result: they waken up the reflection on history teaching in Japan.
