• Die gegenwärtige pluralistische Gesellschaft mit ihrem Wohlstandsdenken, mit Kirchenaustritten und moralischen Relativismus stellt besondere Ansprüche an die Pastoraltheologie der Kirche im Westen Europas. In diesem Kontext erscheint Martini als Bischof der Diözese Mailand von 1980 bis 2002 als besonders innovativer und profilierter Seelsorger. Er entwickelte sein Pastoralkonzept auf der Grundlage der Bibel und des Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzils, die die Maßstäbe für den Auftrag der Kirche unter den Bedingungen der Moderne setzt. Sein Pastoralkonzept und dessen Realisierung wurden in der vorliegenden Studie vorgestellt und kritisch ausgewertet. Das erste Kapitel mit der Kurzbiographie Martinis vermittelt einen Überblick über seine geistliche Persönlichkeit und sein theologisches Profil als Bibelwissenschaftler. Damit ist das Feld für die weiteren theologischen Erörterungen vorbereitet. Die Glaubenssituation seiner Diözese hat sich für Martini nicht aus ideengeschichtlicher Höhe, sondern aus der bodenständigen Analyse der Mailänder Gesellschaft und Kirche erschlossen. Von der Bibel her suchte er mit der Moderne eine geistige Auseinandersetzung, indem er nach dem Gottesbild, dem Menschenbild und dem Kirchenbild fragte. Aus diesem Grund plädierte er für Dialoge mit "Nicht-Glaubenden", mit prominenten Vertretern der säkularen Gesellschaft, den Massenmedien und anderen Religionen (Judentum, Islam), um auf der Grundlage der Bibel die wichtigsten Probleme des Lebens und der Gesellschaft zu diskutieren. Der Schwerpunkt seiner pastoralen Tätigkeit bildet die Methode der Schriftlesung, die "lectio divina", nach der seine biblisch orientierte Jugendpastoral entstand. Nicht nur die Verkündigung des Evangeliums und die Feier der Liturgie gehört zum seinem Pastoralkonzept, sondern auch die Diakonie. In der Diakonie hat er sich dem Kampf für die Menschenwürde der Randgruppen Mailands (alte Menschen, AIDS-Kranke, Drogensüchtige, Migranten, Behinderte und Strafgefangene) gestellt. Die vorliegende Studie gibt einen konturierten und dokumentierten Einblick in das umfangreiche literarische Werk Martinis, eines großen nachkonziliaren Bischofs, der seine Inspiration vor allem in der Bibel fand.…
• The contemporary pluralistic society, with its affluence thinking, its secession from the Church and its moral relativism, poses a special challenge to the pastoral theology in the West-European church. Carlo Maria Martini, a bishop of diocese Milan from 1980 to 2002, distinguished himself in that context as a ground-breaking pastor. He created a concept of pastoral care based on the Holy Bible as well as on the Second Vatican Council, which set a standard for the modern mission of the Church. The following study gives us a critical view of the bishop's innovative pastoral concept and how it was put into life. The first chapter presents Martini's short biography and gives a general idea of his spiritual identity as well as his theological profile as a learned exegete. That commences further theological considerations. The next four chapters give a systematic view of his concept: (2) Pastoral orientation, (3) Openness to dialogue, (4) Service of the Word, (5) Socio-charitable work. The faith situation in Martini's diocese opened up for him not through theoretical considerations but through a solid analysis of the Milan society and its church. He sought Bible-based debate with Modernity over the contemporary image of God, the church and the man. In order to discuss the most important problems of life and society from the biblical point of view, he advocated dialogue with non-believers, prominent members of secular society as well as the mass media of other religions (Judaism, Islam). The focal point of his pastoral care was the method of "lectio divina", spiritual reading and prayerful listening to the Word of God. Also his Bible-based pastoral care of young people was built on that method. To his pastoral care concept belongs, besides liturgical celebration and proclamation of the Gospel, the deaconry - social welfare work. In his deaconry he stood and fought for human dignity of Milan disadvantaged groups: the old people, Aids victims, drug addicts, immigrants, the handicapped and convicts. The following study outlines and documents the comprehensive literary work of Carlo Maria Martini, a great post-synodal bishop, whose primary source of inspiration was the Holy Bible.…
