- Increasing organizational investment in technology for online learning platforms emphasizes how important it is for scholars and practice to understand and investigate technology and organizational developments. Online learning platforms are one component of education in university environments. Over the last decade an extensive offer of different online learning platforms and the fitting technology has been established. New technical capabilities are decisive to advance further development. Universities and companies face similar challenges in order to react flexibly to new requirements. The paper at hand strives to answer the question how the cloud computing concept can help technically and organizationally to achieve an efficient and sustainable utilization of resources for online learning platforms. In an organizational respect cloud solutions fit into the concept of an educational network and can stimulate the development of sustainable learning platforms-as-a-service.
