Business and human rights - shared responsibility

  • In times of globalisation, many companies are operating abroad to save costs. / This entails the risk of human rights violations, as local standards for occupational health and safety, social security and environmental protection are often very low. Unless protecting human rights forms part of their business strategy, this is not an advantage for companies. Nevertheless, there is a collective responsibility to take steps to avoid human rights violations that is shared by the home country, the host country and the companies themselves.
