Precipitation and humidity observation using a microwave transmission experiment and commercial microwave links

  • This thesis first summarizes the theory of the interaction of microwave radiation with precipitation and humidity. It further describes the development and operation of a microwave transmission experiment and analyzes its data to derive information about humidity and rainfall. In addition, a new method to process attenuation data from commercial microwave links is presented. Rain rates are then derived from these data and are validated with rain gauge and radar observations.
